No proper planning

"It has exposed the failings of a government where the power is concentrated at the top, where decisions are often carried out with little consideration for their consequences and where follow-up is often nonexistent" Claimed a New York Times article.

Imagine my relief when I discovered this wasn't Malaysia.

The article was about the Thrash situation in Egypt, where affluent and poor neighborhoods alike are experiencing a thrash problem.

You probably are guessing why.

Could it be the city cutting back on spending? NO

Could it be that the sanitation workers are on strike? NO

Could it be that the government has boycotted the only country capable of supplying them the trucks to clean the cities? NO

It's actually the PIGS.

You got that right...about 6 months ago Egypt decided to cull it's pigs in a mis-guided attempt to prevent swine flu.

For more than half a century, (thrash) collectors were the zabaleen, a community of Egyptian Christians who live on the cliffs on the eastern edge of the city. They collected the trash, sold the recyclables and fed the organic waste to their pigs — which they then slaughtered and ate.

Killing all the pigs, all at once, “was the stupidest thing they ever did,” Ms. Kamel said, adding, “This is just one more example of poorly informed decision makers."

So now they're left with no thrash, and most importantly no more Bacon.

Of course, it's important to note that Egypt isn't the only country where the government acts first and thinks later.

What the Danish government didn't realize was that the ad could be seen as in "Come to Denmark, have sex with our women and leave" context.

Sometimes it's good to see that other governments are as stupid as ours as well.
