PAS election results : more talk of the Unity Government

What does the outcome of the PAS elections mean?

What does in entail for the future of Pakatan Rakyat and vis-a-vis Malaysia in general?

Who the hell is Husam and Nasharuddin Mat Isa, and should we the non-Muslim population of Malaysia be worried that just hours after the elections there are calls to:

1) Segregate Reporters covering the PAS elections (by gender)
2) Issue a fatwa on sisters-in-islam
3) FORM A UNITY GOVERNMENT BETWEEN PAS AND UMNO.

I'm going to bother about (1) and (2) , it's the same story with different twist. What we should be focused on is how serious the call for a unity government between PAS and UMNO would be.

To be honest, I was a bit pissed at PAS for even suggesting the idea. I voted for PAS in the last general elections and my experience with them has been bitter sweet ever since. They're erractic calls that fluctuate between ultra-conservative Islam to moderate Islam is de-stabilizing the party.

On the one hand we have Nizar Jamaludin and Khalid Samad (the Shah Alam MP who visited the Church of the Divine Mercy in Glenmarie). On the other hand we have idiots like PAS Youth, that protested the Rihana Concert which it described as unsuitable for the country, and protested a conference of 250 islamic scholars to seek ways to forge equality and justice in the Muslim family. Apparently "forge equality and justice in the Muslim family" is too liberal for Malaysia and is meant to confuse malays.

This erratic behavior from a party is a far cry from the consistency of DAP or even PKR. DAP and PKR have straight forward agendas and everyone in the party seems to be on board with them...except of course Zulkifli Nordin.

So when I heard that Nasharuddin Mat Isa the man behind Hadi Awang won the deputy presidency, I received the news with a bit of caution. I was (to be honest) afraid for what the political scenario in Malaysia might end up with. Both Nasharuddin Mat Isa and Hadi Awang have been the strongest campaigners for the Unity Government with UMNO. This of course would increase BN's hold in Parlimeant and reduce the opposition of this country back to political insignificance.

How this would sit with MCA, MIC and even Gerakan and PPP would be of little consequence. The bigger problem is how to align the ministerial post of this country to accomodate at least 4 more Ministers?

This minor logistical problem could be ironed out fairly easy for UMNO and the BN jing-bang. So the main concern is not whether it's possible, but rather would PAS join UMNO?

To me, after thinking about it, the solution is ultimately simple.

Let PAS join UMNO. Let them.

In fact, right now I'm wishing PAS join UMNO, because if PAS were to join UMNO, my vote in the next general election would be remarkably simple.

Just don't vote for the damn unity government.

I would have no qualms voting for Pakatan Rakyat if it didn't have PAS, and this way all my 'enemies' would be in a single camp and the choice would be easy.

Those in PAS with honor would not join UMNO and form some sort of splinter group. This group I can vote for. As for the Unity government, it will be a one-term thing, with them being voted out in the next general election would be a easy coup. Nik Aziz would thrash Hadi Awang among the hard-core PAS members. If it really were a contest between the two, the PAS grassroots would not have a difficult choice between them.

So ultimately, I'm actually praying for Hadi Awang and Nasharuddin Mat Isa to take PAS into UMNO, for the honorable BN MPs to cross over to Pakatan and the honorable PAS members to stay in Pakatan. That way, pakatan would purge itself of the erractic semi-delusional members of PAS who have no right being leaders of Malaysia anyway.

Now if only they could get Zulkifli Nordin to join them, and the equation would be perfect.

That's my 2 cents. Don't spend it all in one place.
