Scripts prevent us from thinking. They outline (in some cases) our every action and thought, they remove our ability to think, and our humanity. The moment we follow scripts, we become no better than robots responding to pre-programmed code, in simple yet predictable ways.
Real world issues, like the Perak Crisis are not predictable. They cannot be pre-programmed or deciphered. Real world issues are ambiguous and by nature infinitely variabled.
How do I know scripts are useless?
From the countless calls I've made to TMnet to have fix a problem with my port, only for them to read out a script to me, which annoyingly starts with "is the phone line connected, Sir?"
To the time I called Maxis for them to cancel my supplementary line because my girlfriend lost her phone. Only for them to cancel my main line instead.
Or the time, I stumped a UOB credit card agent with the simple question of "What's the annual fee if I take only one card?" She didn't know since everyone would take 2 free cards instead of paying for 1 card. (scripts can't cater for every possible scenario)
All of these scenarios point to one thing, the killing and the annihilation of humanity and creativity. When companies like Maxis, TM and UOB don't trust their staff enough to have them engage people in direct contact without scripted robotic conversations. Scripts add a layer of bureaucracy that prevents staff from thinking on their feet, or answering un-scripted questions like "How much for just 1 card?".
Scripts are there for a reason, they help us to act without thinking, without the need for individuality, without the need for human creativity. It acts as an insurance policy against idiots taking helm at the phone. But maybe acting without thinking isn't right? Maybe humans were designed by God to actually Think AND Act? (Syed Hamid Albar would probably be the exception)
That's why I chose using DHL instead of FedEX, because the DHL service line didn't even have a menu, the call rang a couple times and I got to speak to an actual human being. That is unusual, it's more usual to get a pre-recorded IVR than it is to speak to a human being.
We sooner or later become slaves to this inhumanity, slaves to our own scripts. We don't improvise , we merely follow. Of course the biggest script of them all, the scripts that supposedly governs all our actions in this land of our....the FEDERAL CONSTITUTION, has been constantly updated by our beloved politicians. Scripting our every move, the Judicial crisis was the worst thing this country experienced. The Law is one thing, but we need to rely on the judgment of humans to interpret it in the right context of every individual case.
Instead of the law serving us, we have become servants of the law. Instead of people asking the important question of "What is the right thing to do?" we ask "What does the law say?".
Nobody is questioning that little Perak Crisis from a sense of morality or righteousness. We put questions like "Does the Sultan have the power?" , "Can the Sultan do this?" or more annoyingly "What does the law say?". The law is meant to serve it's people, not the other way around.
I don't care what the law says, forget the law...in fact forget the Sultan. I'm not asking what's the most convenient thing to do, or the cheapest, or the quickest or even the most effective. thing to do. I'm definitely not asking "What is LEGALLY the right thing to do?" but simply "What is the right thing to do?"
The more you think about it, from a moral standpoint and from an ethical standpoint, the right thing to do is to call for fresh elections.
A simple call, that would cost this country about 50-100 million ringgit. To me it's far more important than an economic stimulus package. So if we're willing to spend RM8 billion for that, I'm willing to spend Rm50 Million for a re-election in the state of Perak. Most people would give their lives for the right of their countrymen to decide to vote, Rm50 million is a pittance.
The fresh elections would prove once and for all, who the people want to govern them. That is a choice that was given to the people, and no one...not even the Sultan should have the power to take that away.
Throw away the scripts, and embrace the humanity.

That's my 2 cents, don't spend it all in one place.
