The remaining Amanah Saham Malaysia (ASM) shares allocated for bumiputera and Indian Malaysians which have not yet been bought should be opened up to all Malaysians, suggests Kedah Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang.(The Nut Graph).
I'm all for this, in fact whoever wants my "Indian" portion of this can have it. I'm gladly giving up my Rm50k allocation for anyone to buy it.
I would feel ashamed that I could buy this "Golden" investment without having to line up simply because I was Indian. That's like getting a job because my father was the boss (literally). I would feel too ashamed to that, and for MIC to suggest Indians need 25% when Indians can't even buy the quota they have ....is STUPID.
On a separate note, Malaysia today said it will allow foreigners to own a majority stake in all financial institutions in the country except commercial banks, raising the cap from the current 49 per cent. That's a good thing.
So under Najib, they're removing quotas faster than anybody can say Speedy Gonzales. Let's be clear though...this is a GOOD thing. Whether it's by choice or necessity, or political motivated or economic stimulus, opening our markets to foreign investment is a good thing. There are people who would say, how can the government guarantee bank accounts, if the accounts are 70% run by foreigners.
I don't know banking, but regulating ownership is wrong, we need to regulate the actions of the owners, and not the owners themselves.
There are people who believe Najib can do no right, but that's just as bad as saying Anwar can do no wrong. Politics is one thing, but when people do the right thing we have stand up and applaud.
Of course the foreign ownership isn't as good as a removal of the 7% discount, but I'll take what I can get. Now if we only begun selling Proton.
That's my 2 cents. Don't spend it all in one place.

keith rozario,
did you know that Lim Kit Siang had labelled Tan Keng Liang as people belonging to a substantial group in the Barisan Nasional quite lacking in grey matters as to have such silly ideas.
As such, I don't think you should listen to such ideas by him.

I think it was a good idea by Tan to request PNB to open up the ASM to other malaysians if the bumi don't want to buy after 6 months. 6 months is a long booking period already. If people want to buy, they would just buy it and not wait too long. Anyway, i think the bumi would prefer to buy ASB and ASN
Hj LIM,
Just because Lim Kit Siang says he's "lacking in grey matter", doesn't mean I have to ignore him.
I don't believe Lim Kit Siang is always right, or BN is always wrong. We should be fair in our evaluations of people and not rely solely on the judgment of others.
so what is it about Lim Kit Siang labelling Tan Keng Liang as lacking grey matter? Does lim kit siang want everyone to have grey hair?
